Chapter History

One of the most notable figures of the American Revolutionary War was Patrick Henry (1736-1799), whose legendary words, “Give me liberty or give me death,” motivated the House of Burgesses to support the American Revolutionary War. Patrick Henry served in the Virginia House of Burgesses, the Continental Congress, and was a three-time governor of Virginia. Henry County, Missouri, was named in his honor, and when our Missouri DAR chapter was organized in Windsor, Missouri on June 13, 1913, it seemed fitting that it be named after this illustrious American Patriot.

Do you have a Patriot Ancestor?

Researching your family lineage is a major step in becoming a member of the DAR. Documentation proving your direct lineage to a Patriot ancestor who fought in the American Revolutionary War or who aided in achieving American independence is required for membership.

All known DAR Patriot ancestors are cataloged in the NSDAR Genealogical Research System (GRS), an online collection of databases that preserve historical documents and records. The DAR provides this ever-growing wealth of research information as a resource tool for lineage and ancestry exploration.
